I started piano lessons when I was eight years old, like the rest of my brothers and sisters. For different reasons, my siblings eventually stopped taking lessons. As a piano teacher now, I hope to motivate and inspire people to play the piano and teach in a way that would have helped my siblings persevere. I believe that children and adults should have fun and find joy in playing the piano, regardless of their skill. Learning the piano can transition to doing better in school, persevering in other areas in life, managing and expressing our emotions in a healthy way, and is a great start to learning other instruments. I have a teaching degree from Utah State University, was an elementary school educator for five years, and have studied piano for many years.

I believe in:

  • Providing quality lessons that are fun and educational
  • Teaching necessary skills as well as enjoying music and creating a lifelong appreciation for the piano
  • Focusing and catering to my students’ interests and achieving for student satisfaction
  • Furthering my own learning and research to ensure my lessons are relevant and interesting

Join my studio if you are interested in fun learning games, a positive experience learning the piano, playing with beauty and passion, or creating music.

Semesters

There are 2 semesters each year. The first semester is from August to December and the second is from January to April.

Solo Lessons

  • 40 minute lessons once a week
  • Tuition is $350 per semester. If paying by month, this amount will be divided by the months in the semester.
  • For beginners, I teach rote pieces while focusing on technique and learning about the piano. Reading is introduced a little later in the semester.
  • Theory is mostly taught through games and will be included in each lesson. Improvisation, composing, and a variety of genres including pop and blues are taught. Rhythm is explored and mastered through engaging music, activities, and sometimes involving cups (see “Cups” performed by Anna Kendrick for an example of rhythm cups).
  • There are one or two group workshops that are optional each semester. All students except for preschool classes are welcome to participate. The workshop(s) will be at a different time than usual lessons and will include improvisation, games, treats, and of course playing the piano together! The workshops are free with tuition.
  • One or two recitals will be held each semester. Participation is optional, but encouraged. Specific dates and times will be announced each semester.
  • Age minimum for solo lessons is 4 years old. No restriction for adults. You don’t have to be young to learn how to play and enjoy the piano!

    Organ Lessons Organ Picture
Although I love the piano, the organ is my favorite instrument to play. Growing up, I thought the organ was boring until I was introduced to it. I found that it is anything but boring! Learn the basics, how to give a congregation a strong spiritual experience, how to play beyond the basics, and/or enjoy secular organ music.

If you are interested in lessons, or your church wants you to play, come and learn more about the organ! Even if you have been playing for a while, there is always more to learn. Being able to play about 15 hymns well is a prerequisite to having organ lessons. There are 3 options for organ lessons.
    One Time Lesson
Choose this option if your church wants you to play, but you don’t have the time to practice, aren’t interested in more lessons, or you just need to know enough to get by. This option will give you the information you need to manipulate the organ and be confident in playing. It is the survival kit you need to succeed. The lesson will take place at the organ located at your church house. We will talk about that specific organ and all that you need to know to operate it. You will be responsible for making arrangements to have the building unlocked for us. A $30 payment will be due at or before the lesson. The lesson will be 1 hour. Payment also covers a cheat sheet to help you remember what you learned.
    Three Lessons
This option is for you if you want to learn how to operate the organ, but also understand the techniques of playing. We will cover the techniques briefly to give you an idea of how to play. Taking these three lessons will give you the tools to help you not only to play the organ, but play it beautifully. There is a difference between a piano player on the organ, and someone who understands how to play the organ. People listening will appreciate it! One lesson will be at the organ you will be playing in your church house, and the other two will be in my home. Each lesson will be 45 minutes. Payment is $50 for all three lessons. Payment is due at or before the first lesson. Lesson times will be decided by the student and the teacher. Options are once a day for three days in a week, once a week for three weeks, or whenever is convenient for both parties. Payment includes a cheat sheet to help you remember what you learned in each lesson, as well as recommendations for music and items that will help you play.
    Lessons By Semester
This option is best for you if you are playing for your church and want to inspire people and help give them a spiritual experience, or if you are interested in organ and want to learn how to play well. I cater to the student and provide music that they would like to learn. People will love listening to someone skilled with the organ, who actually knows how to play! Learn to play music on the organ that moves the soul, excites your spirit, or is incredibly joyful to play! Lessons are 40 minutes. Organ shoes are recommended, but not required. Inquire about options during lessons. Semesters are from September to January and February to May. Tuition is $250 per semester. This amount may be paid monthly. Payment is due at or before the first lesson if paying by semester, or at or before the first lesson of the month if paying monthly. If requested by the student, two lessons every semester may take place at the organ in their church house. The rest will be given at my home.
